For Financial and Legal Advisors
How Can You Help Your Clients
Get More From Their Gifts?
As an attorney, accountant, broker,
financial planner, insurance agent, or
private banker, your job is to help your
clients make fiscally prudent decisions,
including those about philanthropy. Many
advisors report that they are not comfortable
asking clients about their giving, unless
the client brings it up first. We can
help you to be more at ease with this
sensitive topic.
Thoughtful giving can be a profoundly
creative and satisfying experience
for you and your clients and
much more than just a good tax strategy. We
seek to enhance the guidance you provide,
and strengthen your connection with
your clients, by helping them:
- identify the reasons they
wish to give and their goals for giving
- find charities that match those goals,
and where appropriate,
- work with you to select the best
vehicles and timetable for giving.
Matching Gifts With Goals:
How We Can Serve Your Clients
For gifts to mean more than just tax
savings, they must align with the client’s
personal, emotional, and spiritual goals.
Fulfilling these goals requires forethought,
discussion, research, review, and follow-up.
The first step is an initial consultation at
the client’s home or office, at
your office; if you are in the Boston
area; or by telephone. This meeting,
which normally takes about two hours,
will help the client identify giving
goals. We also will discuss how we can
the client begin to develop a Charitable
Giving Plan. (During this meeting,
the client will not be asked to discuss
income, assets, nor the specific amounts
to be given). Based upon the client’s
specific requirements, as well as the
organizations he/she currently supports,
we will work to create the outline for
a Charitable Giving Plan.
For many, this initial process will
be sufficient to jumpstart the giving
program, and will give the client a platform
from which to work with you.We also are
available to meet
or talk with you to
help determine the vehicles for giving
that best meet your client’s needs,
and to offer presentations for you and
your firm on creating a Charitable
Giving Plan.
We are happy to meet with you or speak
with you at your convenience to discuss
how we may be of service to you and your
clients.

A business owner in
a resort town wanted to give something
back to the community that has supported
his success throughout the years. Interested
in providing scholarship funds for local
students intending to enter his field,
he didnt know how to do so. We offered
him several ideas that he chose to implement
on his own.
